Higher Yields are Available with K-Mag® Fertilizer
Why K-Mag?
The shortage of just one essential nutrient can shortchange the yield and quality of Coastal BERMUDAGRASS and other forage grasses. Growers can optimize productivity by providing a balanced soil fertility program that ensures all 17 essential nutrients are available to plants.
K-Mag fertilizer provides three essential nutrients in the highly available sulfate form. Available in PREMIUM, GRANULAR and STANDARD grades, K-Mag provides 21-22% potassium (K2O), 10.5-10.8% magnesium (Mg) and 21-22% sulfur (S).
Also known as langbeinite, potassium magnesium sulfate, or double sulfate of potash, K-Mag is sourced from ore beds deep beneath the earth's surface, where an isolated lake of ocean water once existed. Langbeinite, an evaporite mineral, is one of the most soluble salts in the ocean.
Increase BERMUDAGRASS yields
Well suited for grazing or hay production in the Southeast, Coastal BERMUDAGRASS can yield up to 10 tons/A of quality forage when provided a sound soil fertility program. BERMUDAGRASS is a hungry crop, requiring upwards of 500 lbs of K2O/A, not to mention ample Mg and S. However, many stands are declining due to less-than-adequate soil fertility. To keep stands healthy and productive, essential nutrients must be supplied and soil pH kept within the 5.5-6.5 range.
Potassium (K)
K-deficiency is typically the one factor behind thin, declining stands. K helps BERMUDAGRASS out-compete invading weeds by promoting an extended, deep root system. K improves winter-hardiness, drought tolerance and resistance to fungal diseases. K additions also can improve the dry matter digestibility of forage grasses.
Magnesium (Mg)
High K rates can lead to an imbalance of Mg in the soil, reducing a plant's ability to produce chlorophyll, the energy-trapping pigment in plants. As photosynthesis rates decline, so do quality and yield. Even more importantly for livestock producers, low Mg sets up a scenario for grass tetany. To help avoid this often fatal metabolic disorder characterized by low levels of Mg in the blood serum of cattle, it is critical to correct soil deficiencies before visual symptoms, like yellowing of leaves, begin to appear. K-Mag supplies Mg in the readily available water soluble sulfate form, as well as in the right balance with K.
Sulfur (S)
S applications have been shown to increase Coastal BERMUDAGRASS yields by 11%. S is an essential component of three amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. S teams up with N to increase yields, and it can complement Mg uptake too. S deficiencies are most prominent on sandy soils, and have become more even widespread with the reduction in industrial emissions associated with the Clean Air Act of 1990.
