    FAQs

    Who is Mosaic Biosciences™?

At Mosaic, we know crop nutrition. We also know that science is advancing to better understand the role beneficial bacteria play in crop nutrition. With the introduction of Mosaic Biosciences™, we now offer a line of biological products that are firmly based in science, and with the agronomic expertise that you have come to expect with the Mosaic name.

    What is BioPath®?

BioPath® is a biological fertilizer complement formulated with proven strains of PGPR — Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria — that increases nutrient availability, uptake and utilization. This improves early-season plant growth and vigor, optimizing yield potential. BioPath is a water-based formulation for liquid applications.

How does BioPath help fertilizer efficiency and crop performance?

BioPath® contains select, highly effective strains of spore-forming Bacillus bacteria (PGPR) that colonize in and around developing crop roots and supports positive plant growth responses. The select strains of Bacillus in BioPath produce organic acids and enzymes that improve the solubilization of fertilizer into plant-available forms. Those nutrients are made more available to the roots, creating a stronger, more vigorous plant that can better manage stresses throughout the season and optimize yields.

What value does BioPath bring to the farm?

BioPath is an affordable way to increase your return on fertilizer investment (ROFI). Adding BioPath to your fertilizer program helps ensure that nutrients are accessible and plant-available ahead of critical plant uptake periods. With a yield advantage ROI of over 3-to-1, BioPath makes your soil and fertilizer work harder, allowing your crops to grow stronger and increasing your ROFI and overall profitability.

Which crops does BioPath help improve yield?

BioPath has demonstrated yield improvements across a variety of crops and soil conditions. Third-party, independent research is available for corn, wheat, potato and numerous specialty agriculture crops. Some retailers and farmers have explored using BioPath on other crops as well with on-farm success.

How much will BioPath increase yield?

With over six years of proven performance, BioPath demonstrates a yield increase in a variety of crops.

    Examples:

    • In-furrow application in corn: BioPath applied in-furrow resulted in a +4.0 bu/ac yield increase in 95% of comparisons over the grower standard. Overall, BioPath increased yield +3.7 bu/ac.
    • Sidedress application in corn: BioPath applied sidedress resulted in a +5.6 bu/ac yield increase in 79% of comparisons over the grower standard. Overall, BioPath increased yield +3.6 bu/ac.
    • Application in potato: BioPath applied in-furrow at plant and near row closure resulted in a +21.3 cwt/ac marketable yield increase over the grower standard, coupled with almost a 4% increase in quality (US#1s).

Can BioPath be used for nutrient replacement?

BioPath is not a nutrient replacement, but rather a biological fertilizer complement that optimizes the efficiency of an existing fertility program. Research has shown BioPath can increase total nutrient uptake of both macronutrients and micronutrients, demonstrating the increased optimization of fertilizer applied this season and/or residual amounts in the soil that has been tied up in unavailable forms.

How does BioPath fit into my operation’s fertility program?

BioPath is a convenient complement to liquid fertilizer programs and is tank-mix compatible with most crop protectants and liquid fertilizers. It can be pre-blended at the retailer or simply tossed in the tank. At planting applications of BioPath® can be applied through several strategies (e.g., in-furrow or in a 2” x 2” band), sidedressed using a coulter or Y-drop, topdress or through fertigation.

Can I tank-mix BioPath with pesticides and N-stabilizers?

Yes, BioPath is tank-mix compatible with most standard crop protectants and N-stabilizers for up to 48 hours. BioPath can be pre-blended with liquid nitrogen fertilizers that contain N-stabilizers. For more information and a BioPath Material Compatibility Chart, click here.

Are the microbes in BioPath alive?

Yes, the microbes in BioPath are in spore form. Once introduced into an environment with adverse conditions, these microbes stay dormant in the spore form until conditions are favorable for propagation. When environmental conditions are suitable, bacterial populations will begin to colonize crop roots. These conditions may include moisture, pH, temperature and substrate (food sources) availability.

    What are PGPRs?

Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPRs) are bacteria that colonize plant roots and form a symbiotic relationship with the plant.

What’s the difference in BioPath compared to other biologicals?

    • Understood MOA and known use rate — proven technology, known use rates by crop and application.
    • Consistent performance.
    • Win-win economics — Competitive cost points and exceptional ROI.
    • Ease of use — Tank-mix compatible with most N-stabilizers, crop protection products and can be pre-blended with a broad range of liquid fertilizers.
    • Shelf-life/storage — 24 months in concentrate, up to 18 months in fertilizer, no special storage conditions required.
